Krejčíková defeated Svitolina in two hours and 48 minutes on the clay court, where she won the Grand Slam title three years ago. In the fight for the semi-finals, she will face Slovak Anna Karolína Schmiedlová.

She later also succeeded in doubles with Kateřina Siniaková. They went on to defend their gold from Tokyo with a win over the Taiwanese couple Chan Chao-Ling and Chan Yung-zhan 6:4, 6:0. On the other hand, Macháč and Jakub Menšík were eliminated in the second round of the singles.

Slalomářka Satková was the fastest among the female canoeists in the qualification, beating even star Australian Jessica Fox at the premiere under five circles. Sparkler finished second. Canoeists will compete for medals on Wednesday, kayakers a day later.

Two-time European champion Miculyčová advanced in fifth place. With the temperature reaching 34 degrees Celsius today in the French capital, she cooled herself with ice blocks immediately after each ride. “The heat is crazy. I had a burn, so I didn’t sleep all night,” she told Czech Television.

The European judo champion Renata Zachová did not advance to the round of 16 of the Olympic tournament in the weight category up to 63 kilograms, she lost to the Hungarian Szofi Özbas at the Wazari. She failed for the sixth time out of eight matches against the bronze medalist from last year’s world championship.

Jiří Lipták, the defending gold medalist in trap shooting, took 18th place. The 42-year-old Czech representative hit all 50 targets in today’s second part of the qualification at the shooting range in Chateauroux, but he was unable to erase the deficit from the opening day, when he accumulated six mistakes.

He was succeeded by Briton Nathan Hales. He won the gold medal in an Olympic record. Its previous holders were Lipták and David Kostelecky, who set the maximum in Tokyo at the then premiere of the current rules format.

A day after sixth place in the final of the crawling 200m, Barbora Seemanová finished thirteenth on the half-track. In the evening semi-final, the European champion started in 17th position from the heats as a substitute for the withdrawn Canadian Margaret Mac Neil.

Double sculls Lenka Lukšová, Anna Šantrůčková finished fourth in the semi-finals of the rowing regatta and will fight for 7th to 12th place in the final B on Thursday. Coach Josef Lukš’s girls were separated by more than three seconds from progressing to medal fights. The other two Czech crews will compete in the semi-final program in Vaires-sur-Marne on Wednesday.
