On June 12, 1981, a film celebrated its world premiere in US cinemas, which 40 years later is still considered by many to be unrivaled in its genre. Hunter of the lost treasure presented Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones the world and wrote film history. Three sequels followed by 2008, at least the first two of which are loved by most film fans.
It would of course have been only too nice if the announced Indiana Jones 5 could appear on the 40th anniversary of the first film. However, numerous postponements due to script difficulties and most recently due to Corona ensured that the aging Indy will not swing the whip again until the summer of 2022 – for the first time not under Steven Spielberg’s direction, but staged by James Mangold (Logan – The Wolverine).
Nonetheless, we want to give all Indy fans a special gift this year. What has been rumored for about a year is now official: The Indiana-JonesSeries will be released as a 4K restored collector’s edition in the summer. At the 8. June Paramount will release the set in the US. Although Disney owns the rights to the films and the character through the purchase of Lucasfilm, Paramount continues to manage the series’ home theater releases. Fortunately, Disney gave Paramount access to the original negatives for the restoration – certainly not unselfishly, because the new release is of course also a welcome advertisement for the upcoming fifth film.
For the first time, all four films will be available in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 as well as Dolby Atmos sound. Each film has been carefully resampled from 4K scans of the original negatives. Spielberg himself checked and approved the new scanning. In addition, the sound of the four films was remixed by Skywalker Sound under the supervision of the legendary sound engineer Ben Burtt, who has already worked on all four films, in order to achieve the highest Dolby Atmos quality and at the same time not to falsify the original.
The collective edition will also contain a booklet with behind-the-scenes images from all four films. Each film is presented on a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc, complete with original cinema trailers and access to digital copies of the films. The collection also contains a Blu-ray with seven and a half hours of the extensive bonus material for all four parts, which was already known from the last release.
Below you will find the impressions of the look of the collector’s edition. We don’t have any information about the German release yet, but it is very likely that it will also be waiting for us next summer.
