4G on the moon: Nokia builds mobile network for NASA | NOW

The American space agency NASA has selected Nokia as the first company that can install a 4G network on the moon. That is what the Finnish manufacturer writes website.

Nokia’s Bell Labs division has been awarded more than $ 14 million to build the network. At the end of 2022, the network will be brought to the moon with a lunar lander. There the network will install itself.

The project is part of the Artemis program, which should return people to the moon around 2024. The mission is set up to later bring humans to Mars for the first time.

With the 4G network, for example, communication can take place between lunar cars and the earth. It can also set up navigation and stream video images in high quality. The network can later be upgraded to the faster 5G.
