Opposition MPs suspended: 49 Loksabha opposition MPs were suspended today. The MPs were suspended for ignoring the instructions of the chair. With this, the strength of the opposition India block in the Lok Sabha decreased again on Tuesday. 78 MPs from both houses of Parliament were suspended yesterday. On Monday, 46 opposition MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha and 46 from the Rajya Sabha. With this, the total number of MPs suspended from Parliament has reached 141. The suspended MPs are Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tiwari, Karti Chidambaram, NCP’s Supriya Sule, Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav and Trinamool Congress’s Sudeep Bandhopadhyay.
“The decision has been taken not to bring placards inside the House. The opposition is taking such steps due to the frustration of losing the last election. That is the reason for suspending the MPs.” – Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said in the Lower House.
The suspension followed disruptions and unruly behavior in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during the winter session of Parliament. The central government justified that the suspension measures were taken to maintain law and order and smooth conduct of legislative proceedings.

As action against opposition legislators continued for the second day, NCP chief Sharad Pawar wrote to Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankar. He also asked to resolve the issue of suspension of MPs in the interest of parliamentary proceedings.
Opposition leaders strongly criticized the suspensions, accusing the ruling BJP of suppressing dissent and stifling democratic discourse.
