Travelers in Germany can use cheaper public transport again from 1 May. For 49 euros per month you can then travel unlimited on buses, trams, metros and regional trains throughout Germany.
The €49 ticket is a successor to last summer’s popular €9 ticket. That was meant to be a boost and to help people with the costs of transport during holidays.
Due to its success, it had already been agreed that there would be a permanent successor; now the national government and the federal states have agreed on a start date of 1 May.
Traveler has choice
The ticket will soon be valid on all city and regional transport, but not on intercity and high-speed trains. A regular ticket must also be purchased for this after 1 May. Those who make a long journey therefore have a choice: spend longer on the road and change trains, or pay for a faster connection.
The 49-euro ticket is on sale from April 3.
