The Ministry of Health confirmed that 48,000 vaccines against COVD-19 for children between the ages of 5 and 11 will arrive in the country next week.
The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) had exhausted these doses in mid-December, so it has already been two months since the last available one was applied.
“In the week of February 20 to 27, the vaccines should enter, that is what we have. On that date, some 48,000 doses should enter. We do not know the day, it does not depend on us, but it is in that week, “said Rodrigo Marín , Director of Health Surveillance.
This will be the first delivery of the year and, throughout the first quarter of 2023, Costa Rica will be receiving 156,000 doses for that population.

The Ministry of Health indicated that it will maintain hygiene measures against respiratory viruses as optional, but recommended.
Are these doses enough?
According to CCSS data supplied to Teletica.com As of February 6, there are at least 104,303 children between the ages of 5 and 11 who have their first dose pending.
In addition, 61,923 are waiting for the second and 223,000 are in line to receive the third.
This means that the first arrival of 48,000 vaccines will not cover all the children who must receive the second dose and who have been waiting since December to receive it.
As soon as the doses are available, the population will be informed through the Fund’s social networks.
