48 Hours in New York: A Weekend of Recharging and Exploring

I had a weekend without children and a need to recharge my batteries, as many mothers who work full time and manage a family life as if there were more than 24 hours in a day dream. I got in my car and drove to New York. Without plans, without a schedule with the only desire to take a step back from my daily life and my life routine which I nevertheless love passionately.

Here is the list of my 48 hours in New York without plans.

Driving to New York to walk all weekend and hear myself think.
Hotel Arlo Midtown : I go there because it’s centrally located in Manhattan so I can walk south and north as I please. Good to know: some rooms with two double beds have terraces. A terrace in your room in New York is the dream to go out and read.

My favorite tacos: The Tacombi in Nolita is my favorite for the atmosphere. Birria are made from brisket (beef brisket). The idea to remember for the house is that they serve a beef broth as an accompaniment to lightly wash down the tacos. A delight. I’m going to do this in my sandwiches too.
The classic Bistro: Pastis has reopened, we rush there. I also go there for the atmosphere in the very cool West Village, the fries and the champagne. It has always been a celebrity spot. The decor is timelessly beautiful.

A coffee at Prêt-à-Manger: It’s almost like a Van Houtte. I’m in love with the branch’s only small table located in front of Bryant Park. When it rains, I sit there to read and look out the window at life in this park that I love.
Whole Foods Market : My favorite grocery store. Every time I drive there, I bring back lots of new products to eat and try. And beauty treatments thanks to their beautiful selection of health products. Our shampoos and conditioners come from there. There is one in front of Bryant Park and therefore within walking distance of my hotel of choice.

Un drink au Ace Hotel : It’s still a place where I like to meet people and get the pulse of a certain culture by going to the hotel bar. Last weekend, a New York director invited us to a free performance artist’s show at the MET (The Metropolitan Museum of Art) that same evening. I beamed with joy at having experienced this opportunity.
High Line : The essential urban linear park. I never put on a dial on Sunday morning, except to go for a walk on the High Line if I’m in New York. I came home dreaming of this walk in urban nature.

Little Island : I took it by the water’s edge going down to this flower park on stilts. I discovered the walking route that runs along the edge of the Hudson River while participating in the New York half marathon. I picked it up, guessing it would take me to Little Island.
Eataly : The chain of fine and fresh Italian products probably the best known to tourists, but which still gives me the impression of being in Italy. Two slices of ultra-cheesy bocconcini and fresh mozzarella pizza and presto, we cross the street for a picnic break at Madison Parc.

Sitting at my kitchen island, I managed to finally hear myself think. And my thoughts told me to return for another eat-think-walk pilgrimage, but “in and around Central Park” next time. I will listen to them.
