In Switzerland, some 1,700 tonnes of pyrotechnics or fireworks and 3,000 tonnes of explosives are used on average per year. About 90% are imported. The Federal Customs Administration (AFD) recalls Wednesday that there are strict controls.
It is possible to import so-called entertainment pyrotechnic devices up to 2.5 kilos per person without authorization, provided that these devices are not banned in Switzerland, AFD said in a press release. Otherwise, an authorization from the Federal Office of Police (fedpol) is required.
The fact that fireworks can be imported does not mean that they can also be used on Swiss soil. In principle, it is forbidden to import fireworks that detonate on the ground, such as firecrackers, for example. “Lady-Crackers” with a length greater than 22 millimeters and / or a diameter exceeding 3 millimeters are also prohibited for import, continues AFD.
And advise to educate yourself and respect the import standards in force, as the New Year approaches. Violations of the law on explosives are reported to the competent authority. Goods are secured when prohibited fireworks are discovered on import or if an import authorization is lacking.
