INDOOR FOOTBALL – The first five finalists of the 45th edition of the Protos Weering Indoor Football Tournament have been announced: Hoogeveen Zondag, HZVV, Gramsbergen, Noordscheschut and LTC.
One more team will join those five teams next Wednesday, when the intermediate round is played. SVBO, Valthermond, FC Meppel, Raptim and Germanicus fight to see who will get the sixth and final ticket.
The only finalist from a year ago that we will not see again is DZOH. The first division team from Emmen finished 4th in group E, where Hoogeveen was in charge.
HZVV and Hoogeveen will go for their seventh tournament win on Sunday. Together with HODO, both finalists have six PWZ victories. If HZVV or Hoogeveen wins the tournament, that club will lead the ranking of All Time Winners (with 7 titles). Noordscheschut won the tournament once and both LTC and Gramsbergen have never won the largest indoor football tournament in the Netherlands.
The biggest stunt of the evening was delivered by Asser LTC in group B (Dedemsvaart). The Saturday second division team started the evening with three victories, after which a draw against Germanicus was enough for coach Germain Beck’s team. Germanicus, fifth last year, took the lead, but LTC top scorer Marco Heerings scored the liberating 1-1.
