450 years since the construction of the Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow –

In this case, Google dawned with another new variation of its logo.

Today marks the 450th anniversary of the construction of one of the most emblematic architectural monuments in RussiaSaint Basil’s Cathedral on Red Square in Moscow. In this case, Google came up with another new variation of its logo.

The Church of the Holy Mother of God, known as Basil the Blessed, is an Orthodox church located on Red Square in Moscow. It is a widely known monument of Russian architecture.

The history of the construction of the temple is also connected with the history of Bulgaria and Volga Bulgaria in particular. “Saint Basil the Blessed” was built in the period 1555-1561 on the occasion of the victory over the Kazan Khanate and the capture of the city of Kazan during the Russian military campaign for the conquest of Volga Bulgaria.

According to the legend, the architect of the temple was blinded by Ivan the Terrible so that he could not build a similar temple.

The temple consists of 8 chapels located around the 9th church rising above them. Above each chapel is a dome with different patterns. All 9 churches are united by a common base, a round gallery and internal transitions.

In 1929, the temple was closed for worship, the bells were removed and it was declared a museum. It was again used for religious services on October 14, 1991.

During the rest of the time, it is open for visiting tourists.

Currently, the “Vasily Blessed” temple is a branch of the State Historical Museum of Russia. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
