On this day 45 years ago, the riff of the great song popped into Keith Richards’ head.
45 years ago, a dreamy Keith Richards was playing his guitar and a riff popped into his head. He took the record player and recorded the riff along with the words “I can’t get no satisfaction.”
The next morning, he and vocalist Mick Jagger finished the Rolling Stones classic. They recorded “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction and it became one of the greatest rock songs.
The summer of 1965 was full of hits that still resonate today, such as The Beach Boys’ “Help Me, Rhonda,” The Byrds’ “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe.” But they’re all overshadowed by “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” The single won a Gold Award from the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of 500,000 copies.
