Since this weekend you can visit the Rozanetuin in the Prinsenhof district in Ghent, an ode to the famous song by Wim De Craene. Residents wanted to name the park that way, because De Craene’s muse lived in their neighborhood at the time.

Anyone who immediately recognizes these lines by Wim De Craene will know why the Prinsenhof in Ghent now also has a Rozane garden.
In 1975 the singer sang his love for Rozane, a pseudonym for the Flemish actress Chris Thys who then lived in the Prinsenhof. 45 years later, the Rozane Garden was officially inaugurated. That happened on Saturday in the presence of Thys and De Craene’s son, Ramses.

It is a patch of greenery next to the Bridge of Imperial Pleasures, which previously had no name. The name was chosen by residents of the Prinsenhof.
Via an online vote they could choose from seven options: Rozanetuin, Johanna van Castiliehof, Ysabeau van Migrodepark, Flandriapark, Cavaleriepark, Manegepark and Stoeterijpark. The name ‘Rozanetuin’ eventually won with 52 percent of the vote.

“With this beautiful and original reference, this classic is immortalized in the streets of Ghent,” said Mayor Mathias De Clercq (Open VLD) on Saturday at the opening. “It is also a recognition for Wim De Craene, a singer who passed away much too soon.”
