44th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema: Refreshing Airs Amid Cuba’s Economic Difficulties

Havana, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) The 44th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema today shows refreshing airs, despite the economic difficulties faced by Cuba, the host country, perhaps like never before.

Days before its inauguration, new equipment was restored and assembled in some of the main rooms in Havana, its usual headquarters.

Another novelty of the continental cinema festival on the Caribbean island was the deployment of concerts and film screenings in central locations in this capital.

The company Mambo Producciones promoted the initiative to pay tribute through music to the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), promoter of these events.

From Nueva Trova, son, jazz and popular dance music, the tribute was extended through renowned national artists whose work, in one way or another, is linked to Cuban cinema.

The groups Buena Fe and Sexteto Habanero, the musicians David Torrens, Adrián Berazain, David Blanco, Emilio Vega, the duo Iris, Rodrigo García and Rodrigo Sosa, from Argentina, go up every day since December 8 to street stages for enjoyment of the population.

The majority of the country joined the Icaic celebration, where these days and until December 17, when the event ends, a selection of Corales award-winning films is being screened at the highest cinema event in Havana and Cuban classics.

Another event occurred this Tuesday, when the Cuban Film Cartel Center was inaugurated on central 23rd Street in Havana’s Vedado district, in charge of guarding the extensive collection of works that received its categorization as part of UNESCO’s granting of the status. of Memory of the World.
