Sikka – The Agricultural Service of Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), explained that as many as 444 banana groves were attacked by banana wilt or fusarium wilt. There are hundreds of cemeteries spread across the sub-districts of Alok, Nita, Koting and Paga.
“Our officers are doing outreach and control and eradication of attacked banana plants,” Sikka Regency Agriculture Service Chief Yohanes Emil Satriawan Sadipun told detikBaliSunday (21/4/2024).
Yohanes said the Agriculture Service had taken measures to control disease attacks on banana plants. So, 75 lumps were successfully resolved.
“Since the last two months, we have been going out to the community regularly to reach out. If someone is infected, they must be destroyed by burning,” he said.
Yohanes explained that banana wilt disease is caused by the bacteria Ralstonia solanacearum race 2. The symptoms of bananas being attacked by this disease are that leaves 1-3 appear yellow green, shrink and the broken stems.
Then, the fruit is still green but if you cut it across it is rotten, black and full of mucus.
“We prohibit the use of banana plants as seed from areas attacked by plant pests (OPT).
“For now, do not plant or remove fruit, saplings or stems of banana plants from outside or inside the affected sub-district area,” he said.
