A 44-year-old was critically injured in a fire in an apartment building in Nordhorn. The man had to be rescued by emergency services from the bedroom of the attic apartment on Thursday, the police said. A mattress had started to burn there for reasons that have not yet been clarified. A 53-year-old police officer was also slightly injured by smoke inhalation. The remaining residents were able to leave the house unharmed.
According to the police on Friday, the affected apartment is no longer habitable. Property damage was estimated at 25,000 euros. Now the police are investigating.
