44 projects in “Qumra Cinema 2023”

The Doha Film Institute announced the selection of 44 films to participate in the Qumra Film Forum 2023, including feature films and documentaries, in addition to short films and series. Qumra 2023 provides opportunities for communication and development for selected projects from 23 countries, as part of the forum’s vision and mission to provide support for the success of filmmakers from the region and the world, and prepare them to complete their projects and present them to audiences around the world.
Cinematic talent working on selected film and series projects will participate in Qumra within an innovative hybrid system, participating in real-world activities, training and networking sessions from March 10 to 15, as well as online from March 19 to 21, 2023. Among the 44 projects in this year’s edition, he will participate 29 projects received support from the grants program at the Doha Film Institute, and 5 projects received support from the Qatar Film Fund. Among the selected projects, 24 projects participated in training programs at the Foundation, including the Hizaya scriptwriting workshop, the producers’ workshop, the short film scripts workshop, the documentary film workshop with director Reethi Pan, the soap operas workshop, and the first editing workshop. The projects are divided into eight feature films in the development stage, five feature films in the production stage, and 13 feature films in the post-production stage. The list also includes 7 series and 11 short films.
Qumra 2023 projects include a list of 13 projects for cinematic talents from Qatar, including 7 projects for Qataris, and 7 series for promising talents that reflect the extent of the development of this type of production.
Fatima Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute, said that the projects participating in Qumra 2023 were selected from a wide range of films from around the world. She added: “Qumra Film Forum provides a new space for independent and new voices in the world of cinema, and we are delighted with the diversity and depth of original ideas that promising filmmakers explore. Our goal is to support independent cinematic voices throughout their work, from writing the script to showing the film on screen. We are honored to have the support of experts and luminaries of cinema who will provide oversight and direction for the selected projects. The skills that filmmakers acquire at Qumra are invaluable and beneficial to their careers, whether by connecting their projects to a global audience or gaining exceptional insights into the filmmaking profession.”
