44 Floodings Addressed in Mexico City and Preventive Measures Implemented in 131 Frequent Flooding Points, says Head of Government

MEXICO CITY (apro).– The head of government, Martí Batres, reported that on Tuesday 44 floodings caused by the heavy rain that fell in Mexico City were attended to, and he assured that “additional measures” had already been applied in the 131 frequent flooding points in the capital as a preventive measure.

In a conference, after the CDMX Educational Infrastructure Investment Report presented at the José María Mata elementary school, the former senator explained that the local Water System (SACMEX), the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (Sinaproc) and the Heroic Fire Department of the capital.

Batres Guadarrama explained that the Cuatro Caminos terminal station of Line 2 of the Metro was one of the places served “despite being a border point with the State of Mexico.”

Regarding said place, he explained: “It did not affect the circulation, nor the operation of the trains; however, it was also vented, the station was cleaned and, as the Metro Collective Transportation System also communicated, all the points were attended to”.

When asked if the 131 located points could be considered “red”, the morenista said that, although they are places of “flooding or flooding, it does not mean that there will necessarily be a flooding there, but since they have a certain frequency throughout of time, they are located”.

He also commented that they began with attention to the most “neuralgic” areas in CDMX and specified that “additional measures” were taken, although he did not specify which ones.

Regarding the work carried out in coordination with the different mayors’ offices, he commented: “We share the fact that the secondary roads must be attended to by them, however, there are secondary roads that are also intervened by the City Government, finally the important thing is to help to neighbors and neighbors not to suffer the consequences of flooding”.

Operation of rains 2023

On June 25, Batres Guadarrama presented the 2023 Rainfall Operation, which includes the installation of a Metropolitan Command center, together with the National Water Commission (Conagua) and authorities of the State of Mexico, to prevent incidents due to flooding.

The president warned that five tropical cyclones are expected, for which he also asked the public not to litter to avoid damage. And he said that the Operation will be implemented throughout the city, with main attention to the 131 points located as the highest incidence.
