The Tamaulipas Health Secretariat has a report of 44 confirmed cases of influenzaof which 17 have been registered this winter season and one unfortunate death to date, which is why it is recommended to resume health measures and apply the vaccine.
The Secretary of Health, Vicente Joel Hernández Navarro, said that with the low temperatures there is already an increase in consultations for acute respiratory diseases (IRAS) so it is necessary to follow the recommendations such as dressing appropriately and not exposing yourself to sudden changes in temperature.
“Illnesses associated with cold are already registering an increase among the population,” he noted.
Among cold-associated respiratory diseases, there is an increase of up to 40 percent in medical consultations, mainly in children under 5 years of age.
Regarding seasonal influenza and among the general population, to date there is a report of 44 confirmed cases, of which 17 have been registered in this winter season and one unfortunate death.
For the winter season, it is recommended to strengthen our immune system and pay special attention to children under 5 years of age and older adults to prevent complications from HAIs and to do so, we should increase the consumption of yellow and orange fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin A and C mainly; and get vaccinated against Influenza, covid-19 and pneumococcus.
Likewise, it is necessary for minors to be up to date with their vaccinations; and that in the first 6 months of life, their diet is exclusively breastfeeding.
Finally, the health minister reiterated that the recommendations that were applied during the pandemic remain in force, such as washing hands frequently when coughing or sneezing, when touching railings, when touching the elevator button, keys or any object, as well as like before and after going to the bathroom; and don’t forget sneezing etiquette when coughing or sneezing and covering your nose and mouth with a tissue.
He added that the supervision of shelters is carried out and the supply of necessary medications and supplies is maintained in the first level care units.
“It is also important that we heed the recommendations issued by state agencies such as Civil Protection, among which we must take special care with heaters, braceros or stoves to mitigate the cold; we must be properly informed and take extreme precautions.”
