Exactly 43 years after becoming the first Bulgarian astronaut to fly into space, Georgi Ivanov published a photo describing what makes him “fly with happiness” at the moment – the time with his grandson, with whom they take care of their bees.

On April 10, 1979, 39-year-old Georgi Ivanov took off with the ship Soyuz-33 together with Nikolai Rukavishnikov.

On the eve of today’s April 10, the first Bulgarian astronaut posted on Facebook what he is doing now:

“On this day, 43 years ago, I was preparing for the most difficult mission of my life, namely space flight. Today, my grandson Georgi and I are taking care of our bees.”

In the mission 43 years ago, the Bulgarian is an astronaut researcher and the Russian Rukavishnikov is a commander. The purpose of the flight is to make a connection with the orbital station “Salyut-6? and there to perform testing of systems and devices created in our country. However, a defect in the main engine of the Soyuz-33 spacecraft makes the mission impossible.

After about 48 hours in space, a decision was made from Earth to return Ivanov and Rukavishnikov, but not with the capsule attached to the orbital station, as was the original plan, but with the capsule to “Soyuz-33 ?.

The capsule enters the atmosphere at too sharp an angle and gets too much acceleration. The astronauts managed to survive thanks to exceptional physical training.
