A 43-year-old man from Roermond has been sentenced to 40 hours of community service for committing voting card fraud. During the 2022 municipal elections, he offered 10 euros to people staying in a homeless shelter in exchange for their voting card.

Then-mayor Rianne Donders already reported the recruitment of proxy votes at the time. The Public Prosecution Service then started an investigation and said it was able to discover fraud involving six voting cards. As far as we know, the passes have not been used, writes 1Limburg.

Second suspect

The police judge also imposed a conditional community service order of 40 hours on the man. That is a lower sentence than was demanded. In addition to 80 hours of community service, the Public Prosecution Service also demanded a conditional prison sentence of one month.

There is a second suspect in the case: he is said to have received the voting cards. The court has adjourned the case against this suspect today and will deal with it at a later date.
