Jealousy was the possible trigger for a confrontation between a 40-year-old and a 42-year-old.
A knife attack in which a 42-year-old man sustained injuries to his upper body occurred on Saturday at around 5 a.m. at Gaußplatz in Vienna-Leopoldstadt. The incident was preceded by a 40-year-old woman’s harmless question about a cell phone with which she wanted to call her partner. When the latter then appeared, the situation escalated.
As the state police headquarters reported on Sunday, there was initially a verbal argument between the two men, during which the woman’s 40-year-old partner attacked the 42-year-old with a knife. Then the aggressor got on his bike and rode away, and the woman also went her own way. As police spokeswoman Barbara Gass said, jealousy could have triggered the conflict.
The victim alerted the police. The injured man was given emergency medical treatment by the Vienna rescue service and taken to hospital. His life was not in danger. The identity of the suspect was easily ascertained, but an immediate manhunt was unsuccessful. (APA)
