At least 41 people were killed in Israel’s raids on Lebanon on Sunday, including 23 in one attack on a town north of Beirut, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said, amid a continued rise in Hezbollah and Israel for weeks.

The ministry said in a statement, “The Israeli enemy’s attack on Alamat in the Jbeil district, in a new toll, led to the martyrdom of twenty-three, including seven children.”

She said that “body parts were removed from the place and the identity of the owners is being investigated, which indicates that the number of martyrs will increase.”

Alamat is a Shiite-majority town in the Christian-majority Jbeil District, located about 30 kilometers from the capital, Beirut.

A previous toll from the same source indicated 20 deaths.

At the scene of the attack in Alamat, pictures from Agence France-Presse showed ambulance workers sifting through the rubble of the targeted house that had been moved to the ground, while a large incinerator worked to clear the rubble. to remove.

Members of the security forces and Hezbollah surrounded the site of the attack, as seen by an Agence France-Presse photographer. Dozens of residents of the town put their belongings into their cars and fled, according to the photographer.

The footage showed paramedics retrieving bodies from under the rubble of the house located in a remote and rugged mountain area, wrapped in blankets, surrounded by an ambulance and a Lebanese Civil Defense vehicle. All that remained of the house was a structure with an iron roof.

The attack happened shortly after the Hezbollah member arrived at the house, as a security source told Agence France-Presse, adding that the member died of his wounds in hospital.

From time to time, Israel launches bloody raids on towns and villages that are outside Hezbollah’s traditional stronghold, targeting cars, individuals, or residential areas. There were several reports that the targets were linked to Hezbollah.

This raises sensitivity, suspicion and tension in areas where residents want to remain safe from war.

From the site of the attack in Alamat, Hezbollah MP for Jbeil district, Raed Berro, said, “Important people in the army and security are usually on the front, and it is important that they are on the front and not on the back lines . ”

He said, “There are only children, old people, and women under the rubble.”

Ali Haider wrote in a post on Facebook that the targeted house belonged to his grandfather, accompanying the post with a photo of the stone house. He wrote that there were “35 people from Baalbek that we are related to,” most of them “children and women” who were sent from there.

-Raiding in eastern Lebanon-

In eastern Lebanon, at least 15 people were killed in Israeli raids, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health in successive statements.

The Ministry counted how 3 people were killed in the Israeli attack on the town of Al-Qasr as well.

Also, Israeli warplanes launched an attack on a house in the city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, according to what the official National News Agency reported, without prior evacuation warning.

For its part, Hezbollah claimed responsibility on Sunday for bombing gatherings of Israeli soldiers near Lebanese border towns and Israeli military sites across the border with southern Lebanon.

A year after Lebanon’s Hezbollah opened a cross-border front in support of its ally, the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, on September 23, the Israeli state intensified its raids on the party’s strongholds in southern and eastern Lebanon. and the southern suburbs. of Beirut. On August 30, they announced the start of “limited” ground operations.

More than 3,189 people have died, according to the Ministry of Health, since Hezbollah began exchanging bombs with Israel more than a year ago.
