China is expected to record 407 million train trips during the upcoming 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, according to the national rail operator.
An average of 10.18 million train trips will be made each day during the travel peak between Jan.28 and March 8, 2021, the China State Railway Group Co. said on Tuesday.
The country will increase its rail transport capacity during this period, with around 5,000 pairs of return passenger trains put into service per day, an increase of 4.5% year on year.
Authorities will take precautions against COVID-19, including measures to avoid train saturation and provide separate seats for passengers with symptoms of fever.
The number of train trips nationwide fell 48.3% year on year, to 210 million during the peak of travel around the 2020 Spring Festival due to the epidemic.
In China, people still take a week’s vacation for family reunions and Chinese New Year celebrations, which falls on February 12, 2021.
