The Blagoevgrad Chamber Opera was created in the summer of 1972 in Sofia at the community center “P. Slaveykov” in the Blagoevski District Council by a group of enthusiastic students under the direction of director Plamen Kartalov. During the period 1972-1977, he gave performances under different names – Youth Opera, Youth Chamber Opera, Creative House of Music, Youth Opera for All. In 1977, with a joint decision of the Committee for Culture – Sofia, the District Council for Culture – Blagoevgrad, and the then municipal leadership of the city, Blagoevgrad was determined as the troupe’s permanent seat. The first production on the Blagoevgrad stage was the opera “The Maid-Mistress” by Pergolesi. Blagoevgrad Chamber Opera is the only music and stage institute in the country that works in the field of the small opera form. The main idea in the artistic activity of the theater is the popularization of chamber opera creativity through light-moving and short opera productions, as well as the implementation of musical-educational educational activities to create a new opera audience in the city and the region.
In 2008, the Chamber Opera won the prestigious “Crystal Lyre” for excellence in the field of music and dance. In February 2009, the Blagoevgard Chamber Opera gave two premieres of the operas “Surgery” by Pierre Ferrou and “The Chinese Women” by Christoph V. Gluck.
The opening of the jubilee creative season of the Blagoevgrad Chamber Opera is today at 6:30 p.m. in the “N. Vaptsarov” Drama Theater hall, and on October 7, at 6 p.m., the troupe will visit Gotse Delchev in the Cultural House hall.
