For the 40th year in a row, the only festival of its kind in our country – “Apolonia” Arts Festival, will delight the audience with a special program of cultural events in Sozopol.
The official opening of “Apollonia” is on August 29 at the Summer Theater, and the festival will continue until September 7. Its 40th edition will offer a rich program.
For the first time, the Orchestra of the BNR will open the holidays under the direction of Konstantin Ilievski and with the participation of the mezzo-soprano Svetlina Stoyanova.
A unique concert will also take place as part of the musical program. Thirteen concertmasters from the best Bulgarian orchestras will gather on one stage, uniting their talent for the first time. This event will happen only once and a recording of it will be offered to the biggest music programs.
In the upcoming edition of “Apolonia”, many of the artists who participated in the first year of the festival will also be guests – Suzana Klincharova, Hristo Yotsov, Antoniy Donchev.
Vasil Petrov and Stara Zagora Military Big Band, the Foundation and the Plovdiv Philharmonic stand out among the participants this year. Hilda Kazasyan will present the concert-performance “World Cinema in Music”.
The monospectacle of Marius Kurkinski „Nashenets„ and nine selected Bulgarian productions will be part of the program. In the one-man show, with which Kurkinski celebrates 30 years on stage, the actor is reincarnated in various characters of Chudomir. It is part of the rich poster of the festival, which includes productions from various theaters in the country, including Varna, Plovdiv, Yambol, as well as the Small City Theater “Behind the Canal”, Theater 199 “Valentin Stoychev” and others.
For lovers of Bulgarian movie nine titles have been selected, three of which will be brand new.
The premiere of “Apolonia” will be the first episode of the Bulgarian series “Everything for my son”. In it, actor Dimitar Rachkov plays a single father who helps his 12-year-old son cope with the loss of his mother, who died a year after his birth.
Among the other titles that will be screened under the open sky will be “Plague” by Ivan Vladimirov, “The Pulse of the Dance” by director Georgi Kostov and “Diada” with producer and director Yana Titova.
Pavel Koichev and Gredi Assa are part of the visual direction of the festival, and a number of award-winning Bulgarian authors will take part in the literary program, which will be opened by Ivan Teofilov. A master class with Georgi Gospodinov is also planned.
The Apollonia Arts Festivals are organized by the Apollonia Foundation, established in 1991. The first edition of the festival was in 1984. The Forum aims to preserve cultural traditions as well as support new talents in the field of all kinds of arts, note the organizers.
