The first American football game in Herne took place on May 17, 1981. In Sodingen, in front of 9,500 spectators, the ‘Herne Tigers‘and the Düsseldorf’Panthers‘each other. A young youth player named Kai Uwe Weitz was also on the sidelines. At that time the game ended 36: 6 for the Panthers. A little later, Weitz, today’s head coach of the Black Barons, was on the Tigers ‘pitch himself, where he played with Uli Hensen – today the Barons’ kicker coach. Since Uli Hensen also briefly worked as a trainer at Ravens, he was also active in some function for all three Herne clubs.

In 1991 the Herne Ravens their sightseeing flight, with Nozad Farah and Dirk Dreßler there from the start. At that time just 16-17 years old, today for the defensive Black Barons responsible. Later, at different times, Uli Hensen also joined the team as coach and Kai Uwe Weitz as player-coach. After a pretty good start, the Ravens’ last years were not so successful.
After a few years without football in Herne, the Black Barons this gap. The Black Barons started out as a division of TV Wanne, but are now independent. After an instructive opening season, two decent seasons and a lost Corona year, Barons are on the right track in terms of sport. The new sporty home of the Barons, the Horststadion, is still being rebuilt at the moment (halloherne reported).
The conditions have never been better thanks to the new location. The Black Barons are very well positioned in many areas such as player squads, youth work or the board of directors and can look to a successful future in order to continue the tradition of American football in Herne.
