As CStar rebroadcasts “The Contract”, released in 1986, this Thursday, October 3, let’s take a look at the upcoming films of its star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Rebroadcast on CStar this Thursday, October 3, The Contract celebrated its 38th anniversary in 2024. And it’s an understatement to say that it looks its age, as a flagship of 80s action cinema. Its main actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, As for him, he has just celebrated his 77th birthday, and he does not intend to retire, like his friend/rival Sylvester Stallone. The time has therefore come to take stock of his next films.
Kung Fury
Schwarzy has a film already shot in his bag: Kung Fury: The Movie. The successful short film released in 2015, directed by David Sandberg, was adapted into a feature film with Michael Fassbender in the leading role. Facing him: legends of the 1980s like David Hasselhoff and our favorite Governator: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The story will tell us the fate of the best cop of all time, Kung Fury; the latter travels through space-time to prevent the evil Kung Führer from seizing the atomic weapon and razing Miami.
The Man with the Bag
Last May, Prime Video told us that Schwarzy had been hired to star in The Man with the Bag, the platform’s next Christmas film. The work will be signed Adam Shankman. The broadcast date has not yet been disclosed. The colossus will be Santa Claus opposite another muscular actor, Alan Ritchson, who we see everywhere since the success of his series Reacher.
The story is as follows: Following the theft of Santa’s magic bag, Santa recruits Vance, a former thief recently released from prison who is trying to reintegrate and spend a Christmas with his family. Instead, Vance, accompanied by his daughter and a group of elves, will have to pull off the biggest heist of his life to save Christmas.
Schwarzy confirms with this new project that he prefers to turn to streaming platforms rather than cinema. Absent from the big screens since 2019 (with Terminator: Dark Fate), the actor has mainly collaborated with Netflix. In addition to a documentary series, soberly titled Arnold, he is also the headliner of Fubar, a spy comedy whose season 2 is currently in production.
Breakout
Arnold is expected to begin filming Breakout in Hungary soon. It is an action film directed by Scott Waugh, to whom we owe Need For Speed and Expendables 4. The actor will play the character of Terry Reynolds.
When his stepson is framed and sentenced to 25 years in prison in a foreign country, Reynolds hatches a plan to help him escape. No release date announced either for this film, which should be released in cinemas.
The Legend of Conan
The Legend of Conan, sequel to the cult film Conan the Barbarian, is still in the works. Announced for the first time in 2017, this new opus seems to have been put away in a drawer for the moment. Will it see the light of day? No information about this has been disclosed at this time.
The Triplets
In March 2022, Danny DeVito spoke of a meeting between him and Arnold Schwarzenegger for Triplets, a sequel to Twins, a cult comedy released in 1989. Two years later, the 79-year-old actor, famous for having played the Penguin in Batman: The Challenge , finally gave news of this future collaboration.
Interviewed by the New York Post, Danny DeVito revealed that he is currently working on a project with the former action star of the 80s and 90s. “We discussed the subject of a film for Arnold and I with the executives at Warner. So it’s on the way… We’re thinking about it. It could be related to Jumeaux. Or it could be related to other things that we did, like Junior Your Batman”confided the actor.
Before his death in 2022, Ivan Reitman had plans to sign Triplets, the sequel to Twins. Will Danny DeVito relaunch this project or move on to something else entirely?
“We suffered a big blow after the death of Ivan Reitman, who directed the first Twins, and who was to take over the helm on Triplets. Now we have to wait a bit to digest, grieve, and get the project back on track. the table.”
“We were supposed to shoot in October 2022 and that could still be the case. But now we have to look for another director and see if we will continue with this project”explained DeVito in March 2022.
Schwarzy and DeVito best friends
Today, the actor no longer seems certain that this sequel is a good idea without Ivan Reitman: “I think if we’re going to be put together in a movie, it has to be a fun situation. I love spending time with Arnold. He’s such a nice guy.”
