40% of Bulgarians define their life as inactive

57% of respondents agree that mobile applications and wearable devices can improve their quality of life.

As a company with a focus on wearable smart devices, including smart watches and smart bracelets, Huawei has for the second year in a row initiated an international study conducted by IPSOS, which examines the impact of the pandemic on people’s quality of life. Both studies, conducted in 2020 and 2021, respectively, seek people’s own assessment of how changed living conditions have affected their physical and mental health, and whether and how modern technology can help them improve.

According to this year’s IPSOS survey conducted for Huawei in 10 countries1 the majority of the 600 respondents surveyed indicated that their lifestyle had changed a lot in the last year and a half. 58% of the surveyed Bulgarians answered that they spend more time in front of the TV or computer. At the same time, 46% of the 600 people surveyed said that their levels of stress and anxiety had increased. In most cases, stress causes them to stop paying attention to whether they are eating healthily or not – 36% admitted that they have started eating less healthily and their weight has increased in the last year.

What are the negative symptoms?

In Bulgaria, the most common symptom, reported by 53% of respondents, is overall exhaustion, loss of energy and a feeling of increased fatigue, and compared to last year’s data it has increased by 8 percentage points. The rate of people identifying unhealthy anxiety has also risen – 48%, compared to 33% during last year’s survey. The percentage is impressively high – 42%, of those who share problems with their sleep, as well as of those who are overloaded with tasks – 32%. Another 30% say about the overall decline in interest and pleasure in the things they do, and 29% about decreased attention and concentration.

Fortunately, people want to change that. 66% of respondents said they wanted to improve their physical health, and 55% and mental health. To this end, we are looking for different solutions to encourage us to train and return more easily to an active lifestyle.
