40 months in prison for Studio 100 top man who … (Antwerp)

The Public Prosecution Service has demanded 40 months in prison, a fine of 16,000 euros and an appeal ban against Maarten Stevens, former financial director of Studio 100. He is said to have embezzled 5.4 million euros between 2005 and 2016.

Maarten Stevens received help from Dirk F., who produced false invoices at Stevens’ request. The Public Prosecution Service is seeking thirty months against F. The prosecutor demanded fifteen months in prison against the former accountant, who would have been involved in the battle.

The case came to light on April 4, 2016 after a criminal complaint filed with the Antwerp prosecutor’s office. The judicial investigation that was then started under the leadership of an investigating judge, revealed a fraud circuit within Studio 100, located in Schelle. In total, this would amount to more than 5.4 million euros.

One of the first suspects to end up in jail was Maarten Stevens, CEO at Studio 100. He is said to have had false invoices drawn up and had them paid by Studio 100 to companies, and then transferred the money to a private account. With millions in damage to follow for the company behind Samson & Gert, Kabouter Plop and Mega Mindy, among others.

Dirk F., Hilde V. and two companies were also prosecuted. According to the investigation, F. was the man who issued the false invoices and transferred the money to Stevens in exchange for a 10% commission. Hilde V. worked as an accountant for a sister company of Studio 100 and occasionally bought something for herself with company money.
