“40 goals a season for 15 years”

FC Barcelona is far behind its own claims. The deep fall of the once-proud Catalan club is linked to the departure of Lionel Messi, says ex-pro Daniel Solsona.

For former Spain international Daniel Solsona, the loss of Lionel Messi is the main reason FC Barcelona are having a season to forget.

“For 15 years, Barça played with a player who scored 40 goals per season,” Solsona alludes to at RAC1 Messi and insists: “Or with players like Neymar or Luis Suarez. Barça had several of the best players in history in his ranks.”

Messi was forced to leave Barça after more than two decades last summer. The Blaugrana could no longer afford the superstar whose contract was up due to the high level of debt.

Barça will end the current season without a title. They were recently defeated by Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, in the Copa del Rey it was already over in the round of 16 and in the semi-finals of the Supercopa. In LaLiga, they are 15 points behind Real Madrid.
