Russia’s Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) announced the news amid ongoing fighting in Ukraine.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreement and threats to withdraw from the Budapest Memorandum.

The Russian Armed Forces destroyed most of the Ukrainian military airfield, as well as military aircraft, during the first day of the operation.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the four fighter jets were downed in aerial combat, while air defenses on the ground downed Mi-8 helicopters, Bayraktar drones, as well as one Su-25 fighter jet (NATO reporting name: Frogfoot).

“In addition, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed five Ukrainian radars and two Buk M-1 air defense systems,” Konashenkov said.
