Adding fish to your diet will help you lose weight. Fish is also a healthy choice that can provide you with a variety of benefits.

Eating fish can improve your eyesight and reduce your risk of heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease, not to mention help you lose weight. That is, if you eat the right amount and type of fish.

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, adults should eat about 2 to 3 servings or at least 8 ounces of fish each week. That gives you the opportunity to incorporate several types of seafood into your diet.

Here are some types of fish to lose weight:

1. Salmon

“Salmon is a great source of lean protein,” says Lisa R. Young, nutrition consultant, assistant professor of nutrition at NYU.

“These fish contain omega-3 fatty acids which are important for our diet. Omega-3s are nutrients that give our bodies energy and keep our heart, lungs, brain and immune system working properly. This is important for someone trying to lose weight, especially since these fatty acids can also help boost one’s metabolism.”

2. Tuna

So far, tuna is often eaten with just sushi or sashimi. But if you are serious about losing weight, you can also eat tuna more often.

“Tuna is rich in nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and selenium,” says Paulina Lee, functional gut health dietitian and founder of Savvy Stummy, LLC.

“Selenium is an essential nutrient that is required by our thyroid to function optimally. Since the thyroid is responsible for metabolism, a poorly functioning thyroid can affect our ability to lose weight, so eating selenium-rich foods may help. One study showed that increasing selenium intake diet resulted in decreased body fat.”

3. Cod fish

Lee revealed that cod is high in protein and low in calories and fat. Meanwhile, cod is also high in B vitamins that the body needs to manage stress, build neurotransmitters, metabolize nutrients, and release energy from food.

4. Halibut

“Halibut is a great source of protein when trying to lose weight,” Young says of fish for weight loss.

Halibut contains various nutrients such as phosphorus, selenium, magnesium, and vitamins B6 and B12. Vitamin B12 is also useful for helping you lose weight.
