4 Sky Phenomena in 2021, There’s a Super Blood Moon: National Okezone

YEAR this is the sky presenting phenomenon that grabs attention. Starting from a Supermoon, Super Blood Moon, an annular solar eclipse, to a total solar eclipse.

The following are the celestial phenomena in 2021 that grab attention.

1. Supermoon

The Supermoon phenomenon will occur on April 26-27 2021. According to NASA, the peak of the supermoon will take place on April 27, 2021 at 03:31 UTC or 10:31 WIB. A supermoon occurs when the moon is closest to the earth. This makes the moon even bigger and brighter than usual. LAPAN (National Institute of Aeronautics and Space) mentions that the full moon in April is called the Pink Moon. The moon will appear full for about three days, from April 27-29, 2021.

2. Super Blood Moon

A total lunar eclipse will occur on May 26, 2021. It is called a Super Blood Moon because the size of the moon when it experiences an eclipse looks bigger and has a reddish color. A lunar eclipse is an astronomical event caused by the earth’s blocking of sunlight.

This causes not all of the light to reach the moon when viewed from the earth. A total lunar eclipse can occur when the sun, earth and moon are aligned. This Super Blood Moon can be seen in North and South America, Australia, East Asia, island countries in the Pacific Ocean, and Indonesia.

3. Ring Solar Eclipse

An annular solar eclipse will occur on June 10, 2021. According to LAPAN’s statement, the annular solar eclipse phenomenon cannot be witnessed in Indonesia. The annular solar eclipse can only be seen in Canada, Greenland and Russia. This phenomenon occurs when the moon, sun, earth are in a parallel position. However, the moon is too small to cover the sun, so a ring appears around the moon’s shadow.

4. Total Solar Eclipse

The Total Solar Eclipse phenomenon will occur on December 4, 2021. The Total Solar Eclipse can only be witnessed in the Southern Hemisphere, such as Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa, Saint Helena, South Georgia. Then also in the Crozet Islands, Sandwich Islands, Falkland Islands, Chile, New Zealand, Australia.

When a total solar eclipse occurs, the moon moves between the sun and the earth, casting a shadow on the earth and partially blocking the sun’s light in some areas.
