3. Dust storms due to severe climate change

Now, researchers say that storms could also be one of the causes of water loss on Mars. Fossil rivers and deltas etched on Mars show that water flowed there billions of years ago.

Most of the water somehow disappears into space. But researchers believe that water vapor cannot fly high in the cold, thin atmosphere without condensing into snow and falling back to the surface.

New data from NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) orbiter shows how rotating dust storms can pump water into space. Even though about 3.8 billion years ago, it was believed that Mars was a better planet and was not as dry as it is today.

4. Solar Storm

In the study published in the journal Science, the research team said that the water on Mars disappeared into space due to solar winds. Solar storms are streams of particles, generally in the form of protons and electrons, emitted by the sun.

Solar storms are indeed a common natural phenomenon. Winds from the solar storm traveled far past Pluto and eventually out of the solar system.

Earth is also in the path of solar storms. However, our planet has a strong protective magnetic field to keep the winds away from these storms. Mars does not have this ability.
