4 nm chip and super fast charging

Chinese Xiaomi did not save on gunpowder when the new Xiaomi 12 series was unveiled. But will the mobiles reach Sweden?

Last Tuesday, Xiaomi held a launch event where two new models were shown: the extra all-mobile Xiaomi 12 Pro, smt the slightly simpler model Xiaomi 12.

Will compete with Galaxy S22

Xiaomi 12 Pro bends most of the features expected of a top model 2021/2022. For example, the phone has a Samsung-made ltpo screen of 6.73 inches and the resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels.

The panel has a dynamic refresh rate of between 1Hz and 120Hz to save battery power, support for hdr10 plus and a maximum brightness of 1500 nits.

4 nm chip under the hood

The most interesting news, however, is under the hood. Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12, will be among the first phones on the market with Qualcomm’s latest performance chip Snapdragon Gen 1. It is a system chip made with 4-nanometer technology, which among other things will give a cpu improvement of about 20 percent compared to its predecessor Snapdragon 888, built with 5-nanometer technology. However, exactly how big performance improvements that Snapdragon Gen 1 delivers in practice remains to be seen.

Just like this autumn’s Xiaomi 11T Pro, the new flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro can charge fast charging to an impressive 120 watts. But then the phone’s 4600 mAh battery must be charged via cable. Wireless charging is also available, with a power of 50 watts. Xiaomi 12 Pro also supports reverse charging. This means that you can charge another teddy bear with 10 watts if it is placed on the back of the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Focuses on larger camera sensor

On the camera front, the Xiaomi 12 Pro has been updated with a 50 MP main camera (Sony IMX707). On paper, the megapixel speed is lower than with the previous top model Xiaomi 11T Pro, but the camera on the new Xiaomi 12 Pro has in turn got a larger image sensor (1 / 1.28 “), which should result in better light input.

The main camera is complemented by a super wide-angle camera and a telephoto lens, both of 50 MP.

No Swedish release date – yet

During yesterday’s event, the Xiaomi 12 was also shown. Xiaomi wants the phone to be considered a flagship model, but at least on paper, it differs a lot from the Xiaomi 12 Pro. For example, the screen size has shrunk to 6.28 inches.

The battery is also marginally smaller (4500 mAh compared to 4600 mAh) and can “only” be quickly charged with a maximum power of 67 watts. In addition, the camera system is slightly simpler, with a main camera of 50 MP, a super wide angle camera of 13 MP and a macro sensor of 5 MP.

Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro will be released on the Chinese market before New Year, and will only come later to the rest of the world. When and if the models will be launched in Sweden, however, remains to be seen.
