4 Muslim Family Members Killed in ‘Planned’ Truck Attack in Canada

A man driving a pick-up truck crash to the death of a Muslim family of 4 members in the southern province of Ontario, Canada. The attack was thought to have been premeditated.

The 20-year-old man wearing a vest “like body armor” fled the scene and was arrested at a mall 7 km (four miles) from the intersection in London, Ontario where the event happened.

“There is evidence that this was a premeditated, premeditated, hate-motivated act. It is believed these victims were targeted because they were Muslims,” ​​Detective Inspector Paul Waight told a news conference.

The names of the victims were not released, but they include a 74-year-old woman, a 46-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl – together representing three generations, London Mayor Ed Holder said.

A nine-year-old boy was also hospitalized after the attack and is recovering.

“Let me be clear, this is an act of mass murder committed against Muslims, against Londoners, rooted in unspeakable hatred,” Holder said.

Named Nathaniel Veltman, the suspect has been charged with four counts of first -degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Police said the incident took place on Sunday (6/6) at around 20:4 (0040 GMT Monday). According to police, five family members were walking together along the sidewalk. They were waiting to cross the intersection. Then, a black pick-up truck came up the pavement and hit, the family.

Waight provided few details of the investigation, but noted that the suspect’s social media posts were reviewed by police.

He said local authorities were working with federal police and the attorney general to add “possible terrorism charges.”
