Covid-19 is like the common cold
Since the beginning of the corona covid-19 virus pandemic, US President Donald Trump has echoed this hoax. He said covid-19 was no more dangerous than seasonal flu.
The facts:
In the US, COVID-19 has caused more than 242 thousand deaths, while the worst flu season in the last decade that killed about 61 thousand people occurred in 2017-2018.
In addition, covid-19 has so far killed more people in the US when compared to the (number of cases in) the last five flu seasons combined, and hundreds more die each day.
A CDC study released on October 20, 2020 found that patients hospitalized with Covid-19 in the Veterans Health Administration had a five times higher risk of death than flu patients.
The covid-19 death rate is also at 0.5 to 1 percent. Meanwhile, flu is only 0.1 percent.
The reason people believe:
Many people continue to call for this including US President Donald Trump. He also said the Covid-19 death rate was exaggerated. In fact, many deaths caused by Covid-19 have not been counted.
