4 Habits Revealed by Doctor Michael Greger to Live Longer and Healthier

Jakarta

Living with a long life and healthy body is the dream of many people. Not many people know, apparently there are several habits that can be implemented to have a longer life.

Doctor and author of books about healthy lifestyles and longevity, Dr Michael Greger, reveals several habits that can be done to maintain health for longer. What are they? The following are four habits that can make you live longer:

1. Eat Berries, Vegetables, and Grains

Greger said that the habits of residents in the blue zone could be an example for living longer. Blue zone is a term given to areas whose people have a longer average lifespan than other areas.

He said people in blue zones tend to eat diets that are high in fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds. They also tend to be low in consumption of animal products, processed foods, and sugar.

“Basically real food that grows from the ground,” said Greger, quoted from Business Insider, Friday (16/2/2024).

Apart from trying to eat vegetables, Greger said that berries are also a healthy food that can be consumed regularly. Try combining vegetables and berries when making smoothies. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower can be an option.

Berries are rich in antioxidants and cruciferous vegetables contain sulforaphane which can neutralize toxins and reduce inflammation.

Greger also added that consuming ground flaxseed every day is also very good because it contains high amounts of lignans. Lignans are associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. Flax seeds can be combined in oatmeal or smoothies.

2. Increase movement

Being sedentary or sitting for 10 hours or more a day is associated with a higher risk of premature death. A more active lifestyle can provide many health benefits, from heart health to reducing the risk of cancer.

Try starting to regularly do light activities such as walking or jogging. Once you get used to it, increase the intensity of your exercise to improve your heart health even better.
