4 Foods to Lower Cancer Risk

A number of foods can be a delicious option to lower the risk of cancer.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The occurrence of cancer can be influenced by various factors. Choosing the right food for consumption is considered to be one of the efforts to prevent cancer.

“Our food choices play an important role in the prevention, treatment, or even amelioration of cancer,” explains Dr William Li, as reported by ExpressMonday (2/5/2022).

Regarding food, Dr Li said there are four foods that can help reduce the risk of cancer. Here are the four foods.

Nuts

According to Dr Li, nuts, especially walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, pistachios, and Brazil nuts, can help keep cancer away. As is known, nuts contain polyphenols that can boost the immune system to fight cancer.

“Nuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids, which can starve cancer cells by cutting blood supply to these cells,” explains Dr Li.

Dr Li dubs tomatoes as a delicious cancer-fighting food. Tomatoes’ power against cancer may come from their high lycopene content. The type of tomato with the highest lycopene content is the san marzano tomato.

“Lycopene also protects your DNA from damage, which helps protect you from cancer,” explains Dr. Li.

Studies have also proven the benefits of tomatoes in reducing the risk of cancer. According to one study, men who ate two to three cups of ripe tomatoes twice per week had cancer risk prostate 30 percent lower.

Purple potatoes

Consumption purple potato also recommended by Dr. Li to reduce the risk of cancer. Purple sweet potato is considered effective because it contains natural chemicals called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins can starve cancer cells and kill them. Anthocyanins are also known to eliminate the dreaded cancer stem cells.
