4 Facts about Pertamina Raising Fuel Prices to Rp14,500 Liters, Number 2 Still Detained : Okezone Economy

JAKARTA –  PT Pertamina (Persero) raises prices BBM non-subsidized types of Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite and Pertamina Dex. The increase applies throughout Indonesia starting March 3, 2022.

A number of provinces experienced various price increases, for example in the DKI Jakarta area, the price of Pertamax Turbo increased from Rp. 13,500 to Rp. 14,500 per liter, Dexlite increased from Rp. 12,150 to Rp. 12,950 and Pertamina Dex increased from Rp. 13,200 to Rp. 13,700.

Here are the facts about the increase in non-subsidized fuel prices, summarized by Okezone, Saturday (12/3/2022).

1. Scan the rise in world oil prices

World oil prices soared amid the Russo-Ukrainian war. Even the world oil price had penetrated the level of USD 130 per barrel. This oil price has a direct impact on the state budget subsidy burden and Pertamina’s financial burden.

Pertamina VP Corporate Communication Fajriyah Usman said product price adjustments were also made selectively, only for certain non-subsidized fuels such as the Pertamax Series and Dex Series whose consumption portion was only around 15% of the total national fuel consumption.

2. Pertalite does not go up

Meanwhile, the price of Pertalite itself has not changed since the last 3 years. Currently, the portion of Pertalite consumption is the largest or around 50% of the total national fuel consumption. Therefore, the Government continues to discuss the Pertalite compensation scenario so that Pertalite price stabilization can be maintained.

3. Non-subsidized fuel for the wealthy

Acting Corporate Secretary Pertamina Patra Niaga Sub Holding Pertamina Commercial & Trading Irto Ginting said that because the 3 fuels were for the wealthy, it was increased.

“The 3 BBK (Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite and Pertadex) are non-subsidized fuel oil for the affluent people, and the portion is only 3% of the total national fuel consumption,” he explained, Thursday (3/2/2022).

4. Not burdening the state budget

It is said that the increase in fuel costs does not burden the state budget, but instead relieves it. This was conveyed by an observer of energy economy at Gadjah Mada University, Fahmy Radhi.

“The burden of the state budget is to provide compensation when Pertamina sells fuel below the economic price. If there is no increase in domestic fuel prices, the burden on the state budget will be heavier,” he explained, Friday (4/3/2022).
