KOMPAS.com – Later, happy hypoxia much discussed after being found in a number of patients corona virus in Indonesia.
Happy hypoxia or hypoxemia defined as the decrease in oxygen pressure in the blood.
Cases in some areas show people without symptoms or experiencing mild symptoms of Covid-19 happy hypoxia.
This is indicated by the sudden decrease in oxygen saturation of the blood to the point of being fatal.
Here are some facts about happy hypoxia:
Two ways of detection
Quoted from the news Kompas.com, September 7, 2020, Clinical Pathologist who is also Deputy Director and Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force at UNS Surakarta Hospital, Tonang Dwi Ardyanto, said there were two ways to detect early happy hypoxia.
First, take 2-3 deep breaths. If a stimulating cough occurs, be aware of the risks hypoxia.
Second, using a Pulse Oxymetry at the fingertips to measure oxygen saturation.

According to him, both methods can be done periodically.
Patients also need to be more vigilant when conditions arise such as rapid breathing, feeling tired quickly, and feeling heavy in the chest when breathing.
Aggravating the patient’s condition
Griffith University epidemiologist Dicky Budiman said happy hypoxia may cause the condition in some patients Covid-19 getting worse.
“This is one of the phenomena that eventually causes many cases from moderate degrees to become more severe or critical, because the changes can be very fast,” said Dicky. Kompas.com, 29 August 2020.
The corona virus is widely referred to as a disease that has 1,000 faces or with different complaints, so it is quite difficult to detect it.
“Except with careful physical examination, which is also careful, including supported by supporting examinations such as PCR or even X-rays and CT scans,” explained Dicky.
Detected since March
Chairman of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI), Agus Dwi Susanto, explained the case happy hypoxia Covid-19 patients in Indonesia have been detected since March 2020.
It’s just that, said Agus, this incident was not exposed because the blood test showed that the patient’s oxygen was low or below normal with a saturation below 94.
“But the patient is sitting around, can read magazines. Asked if there are complaints? Yes, it does not exist. Yes, we have found that since the Covid-19 case existed,” said Agus, quoted from Kompas.com, 5 September 2020.

Agus said, temporary suspicion of the cause silent hypoxemia or happy hypoxia occurring in Covid-19 patients is the effect of the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself.
“So in the meantime, it is suspected that the SARS-CoV-2 virus interferes with the receptors in the neural mechanism,” said Agus.
Occurs in symptomatic patients
Lung Specialist Doctor of the Friendship Central General Hospital (RSUP), Erlina Burhan, said happy hypoxia cannot happen to people who don’t show symptoms of Covid-19.
Happy hypoxia can only be experienced by people infected with Covid-19 showing symptoms of fever, cough and dizziness.
“Happy hypoxia cannot happen to people without symptoms. So there are other symptoms, fever, cough, dizziness,” said Erlina, quoted from Kompas.com, 4 September 2020.
