Suddenly a man beat the imam of the mosque in Pondok Gede, Bekasi city. The beating took place while the imam was leading Maghrebi prayers at the mosque.
The perpetrator, known under the initials SK (70), was later found to have been in an accident mental disorders. The case was resolved amicably.
Viral on social media
The beating was recorded on CCTV and went viral on social media. In the viral video, it is initially seen that the prayer preparation activities are proceeding normally.
The author also attended congregational prayers with several men. He was in the front row, right behind the imam.
The imam of the mosque initiated takbiratul ikhram. Next, the imam recites Surah Al-Fatihah.
Not having finished reading Al-Fatihah’s letter, the priest suddenly pushed and beaten by actors in batik suits.
Suddenly the author’s action caused the prayer to be cancelled. The other members of the congregation immediately stopped the offender’s actions.
The accident occurred on Thursday (1/12). The police then conducted an investigation and visited the perpetrator at his home.
Spontaneous action
Kabid Humas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Endra Zulpan said that after SK beat the victim, a number of residents asked the reason for the beating. However, SK did not give a clear reason.
“After the Maghreb prayer, some faithful asked the perpetrator why they hit him. The perpetrator only replied ‘I don’t know’,” Zulpan explained to reporters on Friday (2/12/2022).
SK was also investigated by Pondok Gede police detectives. The action happened spontaneity without any reason.
“There was no reason for the beating. So it was spontaneous, in fact he had a nervous breakdown,” Zulpan said.
