4 days of strike will be declared, starting this Tuesday, October 8

The Peace Hospital, plunged into an advanced state of disrepair, is going through an unprecedented crisis. For more than a month, the establishment has been paralyzed by a widespread strike by all the unions.

”The hospital regularly experiences flooding. Patients, caregivers and companions wade through water coming from both the rain and the toilets, transforming the establishment into a veritable field of ruins.
The inter-union launched a strike movement, since August 12, 2024, to denounce the deterioration of infrastructure, the cramped premises, the disastrous working conditions, the breakdown of standard and digital x-ray machines, the absence of sterilization , ruptures and the absence of basic biological explorations as well as the enormous debt accumulated towards workers, suppliers and social institutions (IPRESS and CSS). This strike is the direct result of the lethargy of the supervisory authorities, incapable of proposing concrete solutions,” criticizes Marc Manga, SG of the inter-union.

The inter-union says it is determined to see its fight to the end and will use all union means to obtain satisfaction.

“We take note of the blatant lack of consideration on the part of local authorities and announce the upcoming intensification of our movement. We decree 4 days of strike starting Tuesday October 8, 2024 then a total strike without minimum service or respect for emergencies in the future.
We remind state authorities of their legal obligation to protect both the population and healthcare personnel. We also remind them of the provisions of the texts which govern the health professions, taking as an example the Code of Medical Ethics which stipulates, in its article 4, that the doctor cannot, under any circumstances, practice his profession in conditions likely to compromise the quality of care and medical procedures. We invite the director of public health, authorized by this same text, to come and see first-hand the deplorable working conditions in which we are forced to work.

We call on the Ministry of Health and Social Action to respond to our concerns since the current management of the hospital is overwhelmed by events. We hope that the competent authorities will quickly take the necessary measures to get the Peace Hospital out of this tragic impasse,” added Mr. Manga.
