1. Countries that Tighten Entry Permits for Indonesian Migrants
Japan has tightened quarantine rules for migrants from Indonesia and Uganda to reduce the spread of Covid-19, especially the Delta variant.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that starting Thursday (1/7), migrants from Indonesia must spend 6 days out of a total of 14 days in quarantine, in facilities that have been determined by the government.
With the announcement of this regulation, Japan has extended the list of countries and regions that have tightened entry permits for migrants from Indonesia.
Last week, Hong Kong began to ban all flight passengers from Indonesia from entering the region due to the transmission of Covid-19.
Shortly after, Taiwan required arrivals from Indonesia and four other countries to quarantine for two weeks at government facilities.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia started allowing travelers from 11 countries to enter its country last May, but not including Indonesia.
2. Australian Citizens Positive for Covid in Indonesia Evacuated Using Private Jets
Still related to the corona virus, there is also news about a family from Australia who tested positive for Covid-19, the Delta variant, who flew from Indonesia on a private jet rented for medical evacuation and landed in Adelaide last week.
The South Australian government confirmed that a family consisting of a man, a woman and a child had the Delta variant of Covid-19.
Australian authorities learned the family had tested positive for Covid-19 before allowing their plane to land at Adelaide Airport.
Currently, Australia itself is keeping a close eye on international arrivals following a surge in infections from the more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus.
3. Kim Jong-un boasts of Chinese relations, allegedly for help Demi
North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong-un, again touts his relationship with China as he congratulates the Communist Party on its 100th anniversary on Thursday (1/7).
This is Kim’s latest statement this week. Over the past week, Kim has continued to intensify various reports that are considered to attract international attention in the midst of the crisis due to the pandemic in his country.
North Korea has not reported a single case of Covid-19 since the pandemic hit the world. However, North Korea’s economic condition is claimed to have been affected by the tightening of rules to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in various countries.
Seeing North Korea’s behavior, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that his country was considering sending aid to North Korea.
“China and North Korea have a long tradition of helping each other when faced with difficulties. If needed, China will actively consider providing assistance to North Korea,” he said.
