Four children have been found alive in the Colombian Amazon after they were involved in a plane crash two weeks ago. President Gustavo Petro speaks of a joyous day for the whole country.
The children, aged 13, 9, 4 and 11 months, were found after a large-scale search operation involving more than a hundred military personnel.
The plane they were in crashed on May 1, en route from a remote spot in the jungle to San Jose del Guaviare. Three adults, including the children’s mother, were killed. Their bodies were found early this week, but the minors had not been traced until today.
Earlier in the day, authorities reported finding a makeshift shelter built from branches and leaves. Before that, a half-eaten piece of fruit and a drinking bottle for a baby were found.
The condition of the children and how they managed to survive is still unclear.
