Washington DC –
Four astronauts return to Earth safely in spaceship SpaceX after spending six months in International Space Station (ISS). The moment of the return of the four astronauts was broadcast live by the Space Agency United States of America (NASA).
As reported AFP, Tuesday (9/11/2021), the astronauts carried out thousands of experiments in orbit and helped upgrade the solar panels on the ISS during their mission as ‘Crew-2’.
SpaceX’s Dragon Endeavor spacecraft managed to enter Earth’s atmosphere and was slowed down by four large, fully inflated parachutes. The spacecraft crashed in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico at 22:33 local time, or 03:33 GMT, before being lifted onto the ship.
The four astronauts who returned to Earth consisted of two astronauts NASA, Megan McArthur and Shane Kimbrough, then a Japanese astronaut named Akihiko Hoshide, and a French astronaut named Thomas Pesquet from the European Space Agency.
The four were removed from the capsule and placed on a stretcher as a precaution — the human body needs to readjust to gravity after being in space for a long period of time.
“It’s great to be back on Planet Earth,” Kimbrough said as the spacecraft reached Earth.
The activities of the ‘Crew-2’ astronauts while on the ISS include documenting the Earth’s surface to record human-induced changes and natural events, then growing chili peppers, and studying worms to further understand changes in human health in space.
“Proud to represent France once again in space! Next stop, Moon?” Pesquet said via his Twitter account.
