4′ AFTER EXTRA TIME AGAINST HEILBRONN – Eisbaeren Regensburg

The second division ice hockey club Eisbären Regensburg ended their very successful 2022 year with just one point: In the home game against Heilbronner Falken there was a bitter 3: 4 defeat after extra time ( 0:1 / 2:2 / 1:0 /0:1). For the Domstädter, who were actually the better team but had to recover from the deficit three times, Andrew Schembri (21st), Marvin Schmid (31st) and Richard Diviš (56th) scored in front of 3633 spectators. The EWC dominated in extra time, but Justin Kirsch’s only goal for the visitors slipped (64′). By taking the point, Eisbären recovered one place in the table and are now seventh again (44 points), Heilbronn remain 13th and therefore second to bottom (37) – the day’s results brought the teams from seventh to 13th even closer together together. The new year 2023 will ring in for the Danube citizens on Tuesday, January 3 starting at 19:30 with an away game at EC Bad Nauheim. The next home game will be on Friday 6 January at 20:00 in the Donau-Arena against ESV Kaufbeuren.

Follow up report:
The Upper Palatinate played their last game of the year without injured strikers Constantin Ontl, Lukas Wagner and Erik Keresztury. Defender Xaver Tippmann, contingent striker Radim Matuš and striker Matteo Stöhr stopped.

After a good start to the match, it was the guests who took the lead in the first power play. A hidden shot by Jeremy Williams hit the crossbar under the goal (9th minute). Just seconds later, Kyle Osterberg almost equalized right away, but slammed the puck into the post. After 16 minutes it was time to go to the dressing rooms: main referee Martin Holzer was hit in the face by a deflected shot and had to be treated. He couldn’t continue the game and had to be taken to the hospital.

The four missing minutes of the first third were made up after the first break. In the 21st minute, or shortly after the effective start of the second half, the polar bears make it 1-1. Andrew Schembri scored a margin. But the joy was short-lived: Once again it was Jeremy Williams who overtook his namesake Devin Williams in the EWC goal to lead Heilbronn again (29th). The hosts, in fact dominant, responded promptly: outnumbered, it was Marvin Schmid who took advantage of another rebound to make it 2-2 (31st). Despite the superiority of Regensburg, the Falken take the lead in the second break: Christopher Fischer pushes the puck over the line on a power play (39′).

Compensation late – but defeat in OT

In the third third the polar bears continued to run towards the away goal manned by Ilya Andryukhov. But the equalizer only came in the 56th minute: Richard Diviš pushed the puck over the line for 3:3 and thus forced extra time. The Upper Palatinate even started in the majority and sometimes had the best shooting chances. Baden-Württemberg’s first relief attack then rang the bell: Justin Kirsch’s shot slipped and fortunately secured the extra point for Heilbronn (64′).
