A 4.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the early hours of Tuesday in El Salvador, with no material damage or casualties reported, although it caused alarm among the population.
The Press Office of the Presidency indicated on its social media account X that, according to data reviewed by the Ministry of the Environment, the epicenter of the tremor was located off the coast of La Libertad, at a depth of 30 kilometers.
The seismological survey said the quake occurred at 01:34 local time on Tuesday (07:34 GMT) off the coast of La Libertad, on the Pacific coast.
It was reported that it occurred 46 kilometers south of Playa Mizata, with a depth of 30 kilometers.
Ten minutes earlier, at 01:24 (07:24 GMT), an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was felt in the Gulf of Fonseca, 15 kilometers south of Conchagua, with a depth of nine kilometers, according to the Ministry of Environment.
The quakes did not cause any damage or casualties, according to authorities. On social media, users posted that the intensity of the earthquake was “strong” and that the shaking woke them up.
