An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of the Demre region of Antalya County in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to the information on the website of the Ankara Presidency Directorate for Emergencies and Natural Disasters (AFAD) the earthquake was registered at 4:55 p.m. (3:55 p.m. Bulgarian time)with its epicenter on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
The earthquake, whose epicenter was 19.08 kilometers from Antalya’s Demre district, was found to have occurred at a depth of 35.12 kilometers.
The tremor was felt significantly in neighboring counties, as well as in Northern Cyprus, and the Greek islands of Meis (Kastellorizo) and Rhodes.
The statement made by AFAD mentioned: “There is currently no negative situation after the earthquake. We have no reports of injuries and serious material damage in the Antalya County area. Field checks are ongoing.”
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also made a statement on his social media profile after the earthquake.
He stated that AFAD teams and relevant institutions immediately started field investigations. “We are following developments closely. May God protect our country and nation from calamity.”
Demre District Governor Onur Shatiroglu said: “The 112 call center has not received any notification of problems since the earthquake so far. We also felt the earthquake, but it had no devastating effect.
Some citizens left their homes, frightened by the tremor, and remained outdoors in anticipation of aftershocks. I wish our citizens peace.”
