4.5 Richter Scale Earthquake Strikes Turkey Near Iraqi Border, Local Media Calls it Frightening and Scary

Frightening, strong, scary – that’s how the local media define the earthquake

A strong earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook Turkey this morning, according to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

The tremor was registered at 07:36 this morning, near the border with Iraq. Its depth was 10 km, and the epicenter was in Yuksekova, 32 km from Hakari, where there is currently heavy snowfall.

Frightening, strong, scary – that’s how the local media define the earthquake. It was followed by lighter aftershocks. In Hakkari County, there are frequent earthquakes, but weaker ones.

A year ago, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook Turkey and parts of Syria. Nearly 60 thousand died and about 120 thousand were injured. A year after the tragedy, over 215,000 people continue to live in containers and tents.
